SBSM to Work with Media Pro

By Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine

For Release: Immediately

Dear SBSM member:

We are pleased to inform you that the Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine has engaged Marilyn Elias, a veteran journalist known to many members, for editorial contributions aimed at expanding APS’ outreach to mass media and the lay public.

As a Health and Behavior Reporter at USA Today for 26 years, Ms. Elias provided extensive coverage of our members’ research in journal articles and at our annual meetings in the U.S. and internationally. Her writing translated science into lay reader-friendly, accurate language that explained its importance for public health.

After resigning from the newspaper, she launched her own writing and editing service (www.editwritenow.net).

Ms. Elias will be interviewing members about their research, composing press releases targeted for mass media and the lay public, and posting tweets from journal articles and our annual meeting.

Her work has garnered awards from groups such as the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, Mental Health America, the Council on Contemporary Families, and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Ms. Elias is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has a Master’s Degree in Communication from Stanford University.

The Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine (APS) (http://www.thesbsm.org), founded in 1942, is an international multidisciplinary academic society that conducts an annual scientific meeting and educational programs. Psychosomatic Medicine is its scientific journal. The membership of over 700 is composed of academic scientists and clinicians in medicine, psychiatry, epidemiology, health psychology and allied health services. The mission of the SBSM is “to advance and integrate the scientific study of biological, psychological, behavioral and social factors in health and disease.”
