CALL FOR PROPOSALS
SBSM Disease(s)/Medical Topic(s) of the Year Initiative (NEW!)

SBSM is excited to launch a new “Disease(s)/Medical Topic(s) of the Year Initiative.
We are now seeking proposals! If you are interested in being involved with a Disease/Medical Topic of the Year and have ideas, we want to hear from you!
The proximal objectives of the Disease/Medical Topic of the Year initiative are as follows:
- Obtain the latest medical update on the selected disease or medical topic from our medical counterparts.
- In parallel, obtain the latest information regarding psychosocial risk factors and biobehavioral interventions from SBSM members and biopsychosocial scientists from other organizations.
- Identify synergies between the biomedical and biopsychosocial perspectives that can advance research or clinical interventions—the more specific to the disorder and the relevant biomedical and/or biopsychosocial mechanisms, the better.
- Hold a 4-5 hour virtual meeting in the fall of 2022.
- Submit a summary manuscript to Psychosomatic Medicine in Spring of 2023.
- To the extent possible, collaborate with an Editor or Associate Editor of a relevant medical journal and explore publication of guidelines for practitioners for the chosen disorder.
- Partner with members from other professional organizations for presentations at the meeting and writing/endorsing the final manuscript.
Proposal Submissions
If you or your collaborators are interested in this new Disease/Medical Topic of the Year Initiative, please prepare answers the following questions and enter them in this form. The deadline for submissions is June 22.
- What is the proposed disease or medically-relevant topic/theme?
- Who is the principal organizer (Name, degree, affiliation, email and mobile number). The principal organizer must be a member of APS.
- If possible, list the names, affiliations and email addresses of other planned or potential presenters and whether or not they are SBSM members.
- In one paragraph please summarize the rationale for this topic, why it is timely and the types of advances (biomedical and/or biopsychosocial) that would likely be presented
- Are you willing to present at a fall virtual meeting for 4-5 hours at an agreed upon day/time?
- Completing a manuscript summarizing the conclusions of the meeting is required by spring 2023. Will meeting this deadline be feasible?
- Disseminating these results is critical to address identified gaps and seize clinical and research opportunities. Partnering with other organizations in medicine, behavioral medicine, and psychology is a major goal. With which other organizations will you collaborate? Organizational endorsements and active participation would be very welcome.
